our ancestral approach
to ice cream

As great as we like to think Ice Cream for Bears is, what is most impactful is what Ice Cream For Bears is not – refined sugars and ultra processed additives. Ice Cream for Bears is simply ice cream the way our ancestors would have eaten it – ice cream that can be a part of a healthy, balanced diet (not in the food pyramid way, but in the “for bears” sort of way).

WE PROUDLY USE

grass-fed
dairy from regeneratively managed farms

what is
regenerative farming?

rotational grazing

Strategically moving livestock between pastures, allows for natural regeneration while minimizing overgrazing. This practice enhances soil helath and promotes biodiversity

no-till agriculture

No-till agriculture avoids disturbing the soil, preserving its ecosystem and mitigating CO2 emissions. By maintaining soil structure and microbial activity, this practice reduces erosion and enhances water retention.

Native trees, grasses,
and cover crops

By fostering biodiversity and reducing reliance on artificial inputs, native species contribute to soil fertility, pest management, and overall farm sustainability.

organic composting
of waste products

Composting transforms waste into nutrient-rich fertilizer, completing the cycle of sustainability. By returning organic matter to the soil, composting enhances soil health, promotes microbial activitiy, and reduces the need for fertilizers.

why we
use honey

Humans have eaten honey
for 8,000 years

Unlike modern ultra-processed sugars, honey is an unrefined sweetener that our bodies have evolved to process over thousands of years.

honey is unprocessed & unfiltered

Unlike refined isolates like cane sugar and corn syrup, honey is intact at it exists in nature - loaded with natural enzymes, vitamins, and minerals that help our bodies process it efficiently and effectively.

is honey a superfood?

we don't believe in superfoods,
we believe in real foods

We don't think that certain foods are more magical than others! Our belief is that all foods, as they exist in nature, serve a nutritional purpose.

The best thing about honey is that it's not cane sugar.

Unlike cane sugar, which has all of its nutrients sripped away, raw honey is unrefined with all of it's nutrients intact so our bodies can process it how nature intended.

studies show...

In multiple studies, honey consuming groups have been shown to have similar markers to sugar-free groups, while sucrose consuming groups show increased weight gain, body fat, worse memory, and higher anxiety.

the origin of icfb

I founded Ice Cream For Bears on the belief that the future of food lies in the past. This means that to be healthy we should try to eat foods that our bodies have evolved to process – foods that have been available to humans for thousands of years. Easier said than done… the modern food system has become incredibly complex and hard to navigate. Grocery shelves today are overrun by poorly sourced and overly processed foods which are creating health crises in our communities. Ice Cream For Bears is on a mission to make food wild again by removing processed foods from packaged foods while supporting the most sustainable practices in food and agriculture. We aim to provide an indulgent and ancestrally consistent ice cream experience that is good for humans, good for animals, and good for Earth.

faqs

Is your honey pasteurized?

Our honey is added after the pasteurization of the dairy to ensure it retains all of it’s health benefits.

What is your honey tested for?

Our honey undergoes rigorous testing to ensure it’s safe for consumption. Our honey is tested for pesticides, insecticides, antibiotics, heavy metals, and foreign sugars.

Is your dairy organic?

A lot of it is! If we can buy organic AND grass-fed dairy we do, but our priority with sourcing is to find cows eating grass on regeneratively managed land. Organic dairy cows are often only on pasture 120 days a year and eat a grain heavy diet.

Our solution is to source from a collection of smaller family farms with incredible management practices where we know the cows spend their days on pasture eating grass (even if these farms don't all bother with organic certifications).

Where does your dairy come from?

We source our dairy from a collection of farms that all meet our bear-approved standards
